"Storms caught between mountains and water flowing from deep stone tunnels. To the west lies the Coldwater swamps, to the East, the Hallow, to the south, the tundra, and to the north, the continent of Ebony. It is mostly unclaimed, but beware ambitious settler, for it is with good reason" (Traveler's guide to Soi)
Lakelands, also called Ashed Lakelands due to the inhabitants and cities of the area, is a geographic biome in the midlands of Soi characterized by rolling mountains and lakes that dot the area.
- The Lakelands borders Deepstep Hallow and shares similarities in the geography, climate, and living things of the nation.
- The area is dotted with mortal civilizations that live in the areas between the Ashed City states
- Goran incursions occasionally roll through the area.
- The area is occasionally infested by Rakkaan due to lack of central authority in the area.
Geography
As the name would suggest, the area is dotted with various lakes connected by above ground or underground rivers that feed them. Some of these lakes are located in or between mountain ranges causing them to have high altitude bodies of water that flow flow to the valleys below.
The mountains of the area tend to be stable rock formations often filled with natural cave systems, the most prominent cave systems are to the northwest bordering Deepstep Hollow. The mountains themselves are covered in oak forests that extend to the valleys below.
The northern coast of the Lakelands is a large shelf cliff that borders the ocean.
- Coldwater swamps cover the area to the NorthEast near the coast
Climate and weather
The weather of the Lakelands tends to be very windy with frequent rainstorms rolling in from the NorthWest. The climate to the north tends to be warmer due to its proximity to the equator, along the coast holds frequent and more severe rainstorms but warmer weather.
Due to the high altitude and mountain ranges of the lakelands, storms can often get caught between mountain ranges, causing wildly different weather patterns with mountains forming natural barriers.
